The German rapper Eko Fresh (real name Ekrem Bora) was born on September 3, 1983 in Cologne. He has been rapping since he was 15 years old, and in 2001 his first EP “Jetzt kommen wir auf die Sachen” was released on the Berlin cult label “Royal Bunker”.
What happened after that is so far unique in Germany’s music landscape. As the youngest rapper with a major deal, the young Eko wrote music history with hits such as “König von Deutschland”, “Ich bin jung und braucht das Geld”, “L.O.V.E.” etc.
But even as an adult, our self-proclaimed “King of Germany” was able to build on his early success, as he reached the No. 1 of the album charts for the first time in 2013 with his classic “Eksodus”.
As the child of Turkish guest workers, Eko is aware of his role model function and has made a name for himself in recent years with songs such as “Quotentürke” or “Aber”. In doing so, he always represents a positive message for tolerance and against racism.
His beloved humor and wordplay make him a unique phenomenon of German art. He has also often proven his songwriting talent with numbers such as “Du hast mein Herz gebrochen” for Yvonne Catterfeld or “Du bist mein Herz” for Pietro Lombardi.
Since 2015, he has discovered his heart for filming. His skills and love for the magic of film could be admired in his cult Netflix series “BLOCKBUSTAZ” or the cinema comedy “3 Turks and a Baby”.
Through countless appearances on television (e.g. winner of “Schlag den Star”), Eko Fresh also achieved a high level of popularity beyond the edge of the rap genre over time.
With his popularity and success, he has logically arrived in the mainstream. With 1 million Facebook fans, 260k on Instagram, 305k on Twitter and 450k followers on YouTube, more than one million records sold and several gold and platinum discs, Eko Fresh is one of the greatest in German rap and has thus secured his place in the rap Olympus.
