The rap legend!
Azad is one of the pioneers of German-language gangsta/battle rap, which he brought from the street to the charts.
The rapper of Kurdish descent, who is based in Frankfurt, started his career in hip-hop in the 90s with the successful label 3P and released his debut album “Leben” in 2001, which immediately entered the charts.
The minimalist beats, his hard choice of words, sophisticated rap techniques and a large list of guest rappers have made the record a real German rap classic.
Two years later, he proved his skills again with the second album “Faust des Nordwestens”. This record also contained hard battle rap, but was supplemented by deep, melancholic songs. Azad became a permanent fixture in the rap scene.
Strengthened by the success, Azad founded his own label “Bozz Music”, under which he released his third album “Bozz”.
It became even more successful than its two predecessors and reached the top 10.
But Azad did not only celebrate huge successes solo.
In 2005, the joint album “One” with Kool Savas became a huge success.
Together with the Russian rapper Seryoga, Azad appeared in his first video clip in 2006 and landed at number 1 in the German charts in 2007 together with Adel Tawiel and the “Prison Break Anthem”.
A year later, Azad performed at an MTV Unplugged concert of the Söhne Mannheims (Wettsingen in Schwetzingen) and was heard there in “Für dich öffnen sie die Tore” by Xavier Naidoo.
The three albums “Game over”, “Blockschrift” and “Assassin” also all achieved excellent chart positions, but the biggest success came in 2016 with the seventh album “Leben II”. With this, Azad finally reached pole position and celebrated his first No.1 album.
After this milestone, the three albums “NXTLVL”, “Der Boss II” and “Goat” were all able to place in the Top 10, two even in the Top 3.
In the search for authentic and yet incredibly successful street rap, then as now, there is no way around Azad.
