Growing up in East Berlin, where she was already known as a young singer, she left the GDR in 1976 and founded the Nina Hagen Band in West Berlin, whose debut album from 1978 is one of the most influential German rock records ever. “You forgot the color film” has long been a standard, her vocal technique between opera singing, punk and speech singing had no role model and received worldwide attention.
