Living in a Box stand for the elegant blue-eyed soul of the late eighties. Keyboardist Marcus Vere and drummer Tich Critchlow founded the band in Sheffield in 1984, and singer Richard Darbyshire joined a year later. The trio named itself after the first song they recorded together.
It was precisely this song that made them world famous in 1987: “Living in a Box” rose to number 5 in Great Britain and also became a hit in the USA. With the album “Gatecrashing” followed in 1989 “Blow the House Down” (number 10) with Brian May from Queen on guitar and the ballad “Room in Your Heart” (number 5). In 1990 the band broke up.
In 2013, the video game “Grand Theft Auto V” brought “Living in a Box” back into the ears of a new generation. Since 2016, Vere and Critchlow have been on the road together again, since 2022 with Bryan Chambers as lead singer, a powerful soul voice with experience on the world’s big stages.
Live Living in a Box play all hits with band and background singers, regularly at festivals such as Rewind and Let’s Rock. An act that combines soul, pop and eighties feeling and makes every audience sing along.
