David Hasselhoff was born in Baltimore in 1952. The cult star’s breakthrough as an actor came in 1982 with his signature role in “Knight Rider”, where he became a superstar alongside his famous car K.I.T.T. The cult series became the most watched in the world. Hasselhoff’s personal coup, however, became “Baywatch”. Since the cult series was to be cancelled after one season due to a lack of success, Hasselhoff took over the production and made The Lifeguards the most successful TV series. For 214 episodes, well-built lifesavers jumped into the floods, spun intrigues, loved and lived before the eyes of viewers in 144 countries.
Musically, David Hasselhoff also had to warm up. In 1985 and 87, he released two albums in the USA, but without noticeable success. With the German producer Jack White, Hasselhoff then recorded an album especially for the German-speaking market – with groundbreaking success: “Looking for Freedom” was the best-selling album in 1989. The single of the same name sold over 70,000 copies a day in Germany in 1989 and occupied first place in the hit parade for eight weeks. On New Year’s Eve 1989, he sang “Looking for Freedom” at the Berlin Wall in front of over 500,000 people. The follow-up album “Crazy for you” also became number 1. Other hits included the eponymous single “Crazy for you”, “Flying on the Wings of Tenderness”, “Do the Limbo Dance”, “Everybody sunshine” and many more. In total, Hasselhoff released eleven albums and received over 45 gold and platinum awards worldwide.
