When their debut album “The Lexicon of Love” was released in May 1982, it stormed to number one in the British album charts. It contained the hits ‘Tears Are Not Enough’, ‘Poison Arrow’, ‘The Look Of Love’ and ‘All Of My Heart’.
All other albums were successful worldwide and sold millions of copies.
In April 2009, 27 years after its initial release, ABC performed the album “The Lexicon Of Love” in its entirety to a sold-out audience at London’s renowned Royal Albert Hall. The performance, which was introduced by producer Trevor Horn and accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, not only saw a reunion with Martin Fry, David Palmer and Trevor Horn, but also with then-background singer Tessa Niles and Oscar-winning musician Anne Dudley, who had originally orchestrated the album and conducted the orchestra that evening.
2012 was a professional and personal highlight for Martin: more than 30 years after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a degree in English Literature, he returned to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music for his contribution to music.
In June 2022, ABC celebrated the 40th anniversary of the release of The Lexicon Of Love with a sold-out UK Orchestra tour, where they performed at Sheffield City Hall, the very day the album was released 40 years earlier.
