Michael Holm is one of the most successful German authors and one of the great personalities of the German music scene. With more than twenty titles, including hits such as “Barfuss im Regen”, “Mendocino” or “Tränen lügen nicht”, he was in the German sales charts between 1969 and 1981, with seven of them in the TOP 10. In addition, he was nominated three times for the Grammy with his globally successful New Age project CUSCO. A life’s work that could not be more impressive.

Above all, however, Michael Holm is a storyteller. One who tells us cheerful stories, but also one who has the courage to present us with sad or thoughtful stories, but all of which leave a small glimmer of hope in us. And this at a time when more and more people are losing hope and hardly have time for stories. Yet we would like to see “real” stories again, like those of “Lucille” or “El Lute”. So Michael Holm has remained true to his unmistakable musical “narrative style” on his new album. His “relationship” ballad “Tausend Lügen” (A Thousand Lies) gets right under your skin when the wonderful everyday poetry of the chorus is allowed to unfold musically: “Is there still love after a thousand lies, when illusions evaporate like smoke, you can defeat disappointment and fear, or do you remain alone, cold as a stone.” Anyone who has immersed themselves in this first song – and at the same time the first single of this album – will no longer be able to tear themselves away from the stories of Michael Holm.

Then we are only too happy to let ourselves be carried away to Hamburg’s Reeperbahn with his “St. Pauli Shuffle” and dream ourselves to South America with his German version of the world hit “El Condor Pasa” or let ourselves be transported back to the inspiring World Cup time with his football anthem “Schwarz-Rot-Gold”. And of course we once again listen spellbound to his sensitive stories, such as that of the “Prince Charming”, which is about a wasted father-son relationship. His story about the loss of authenticity and personal freedom in “The Feeling of Being Free” is also impressive and his “High Society” story, which comments on the Verona Feldbusch/Daniela Katzenberger phenomenon in a refreshingly cheerful way, is wonderfully funny. Michael Holm doesn’t mince his words here either. We would also like to see this honesty and credibility, which does not look for format suitability and trends, from many politicians today. The fact that he has also composed a musical in addition to his new album does not surprise us with the multi-talent. The title “Zeit” on the album, which is designated as a bonus track, comes from this musical, which invites us to experience his world of magical stories live. We can be curious!
