The piece quickly spread to peer-to-peer networks under the name “2taktare” (Swedish for “two-strokes”) and was integrated into various Flash animations. In 2003, Erik Wernquist decided to create the 3D animation “The Annoying Thing” and present it on his website, keeping the source of the ringtone anonymous. After Daniel Malmedahl found out about it, he contacted Wernquist, who then had to pay him compensation for the use of his piece.
