volXXpopular The most successful folk music band at the moment is “Wieder dahoam” Seven years of voXXclub! That’s seven fat years of singing, dancing, yodelling and rocking. What began in March 2013 with a flash mob in a Munich shopping mall is now freaking out people across the globe. With the current album ‘Wieder dahoam’, the quintet is consistently continuing on the path of renewal of the folk music genre.
“Rock Mi” did not remain a one-hit wonder. Rather, the exact opposite was the case. With songs like “Ziwui”, “Donnawedda”, “I mog di so” and last but not least the story of the cow “Anneliese”, who found herself on Munich’s Theresienwiese and thus became the Oktoberfest song 2019, the voXXclub delivered a lot of other chart successes.
Radio. TV. Live On Tour. How successfully the voXXclub was the first vocal ensemble of the genre to break completely new ground and revolutionize folk music can be seen in the many awards, prizes, TV appearances and, above all, in the enormously positive audience reactions.
Musically as well as lyrically and in terms of content and also in terms of performance on the live stage, the voXXclub has developed a unique selling point that encompasses artistic quality as well as commercial aspects in equal measure. The band traveled inexorably from continent to continent from Bavaria and thrilled internationally with top-staged stage shows including sophisticated choreographies. Even in China and Brazil – where in some places the guys can no longer take a step onto the street without security due to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the fans – people now know that folk music from the Alpine region does not necessarily have to dance in polka step with peaks, brooks and edelweiss and that the accordion is also good for rocking!

Even Deep Purple icon Ritchie Blackmore will be surprised with it: With ‘What’s going on here’… The lyrics are self-explanatory and a signpost to the musical future of the voXXclub!
It’s quite possible that Blackmore asks himself the question: What’s going on here? For decades, millions of eager guitarists have been picking up the strings to sound like Ritchie Blackmore first demonstrated in 1972 when he touched on ‘Smoke On The Water’ and the song became the hard rock anthem of an entire generation. And now the merciless truth: Dear people, it’s hard to believe, but the intro doesn’t necessarily need six strings to sound massive. Singing also works. And really well if you have power in your voices and have been making it clear in the band name for years, as the voXXclub does, whose voices are the most important instruments.
Their voices and the desire to always poach across the genres, not to worry about any iron laws, but just to get started. A ‘you can’t do that’, the gentlemen have always given at the studio door, or rather at the stage door. The top premise is: It has to be fun and every gig has to be a workout for band and audience.
‘Life rocks’ sing voXXclub and ‘Smoke On The Water’ becomes ‘What’s going on here’. The title is self-explanatory in the lyrics and boils down to the line ‘We make loud’. It rocks, the air guitars whirl, headbanging is also possible without a long mat and the main thing is to overcome boundaries and that the pig is allowed out. Black dominates the look and the squeezebox can stay in the dressing room this time.
“This is our musical DNA, this unconventional and who knows what else we will come up with,” say the five in unison and if you are afraid that folk music will somehow be neglected, you don’t have to be afraid. Lederhose remain lederhosen, whether black or in alpine style. The important thing is who is in it and the voXXclub is already a brand in itself. ‘What’s going on here’ is a hint and already lifts the cloth a little, under which the first signs of the next album appear. It will probably be ready in autumn, but until then it will be
some more surprising things to hear from the voXXclub.
