The guitars kick in, and the whole place is in the south of France. Diego Baliardo, founding member of the Gipsy Kings, brings the sound that has sold over twenty million records worldwide.
The families of the Gipsy Kings came across the border to the Camargue as Spanish Roma, and from this origin the Rumba Catalana was born: flamenco guitar, combined with pop and Latin rhythms. In 1987, the international breakthrough came with “Bamboleo” and “Djobi Djoba”, and two years later the Spanish version of “Volare” became a world hit.
Live, the heart of the music is the guitar wall: several players, rhythmically interlocked, plus percussion and vocals. This music needs no translation – it has an immediate effect, both sitting and standing.
